1984 (文史藝術)

The George Orwell's book is about evil state control over our lives.
The state dictates how things are done and anyone who dares to disagree,
shall fade into oblivion !

The book was a denunciation of social utopias and how they turn totali-
tarian, how "for the good of people becomes "for the good of the State"
and, in particular, how language gets twisted to serve the purposes on
the regime.

It was directed mostly at the Communists States, but also at similar
tendencies that could be found (and still are with depressing frequency)
in some other countries.

It's probably a bit dated in some ways, not least because of the title,
and because "we already know that" and "Communism has failed". Nonethe-
less one does not have to look very far to find "Orwellian" use of
language today.

A companion of this book is Animal Farm by the same author. The famous
line in there is: "All animals are created equal but some animals are
more equal than others". Orwell also wrote "Down and out in London and
Paris", an interesting read.

And don't forget to check out this impressive commercial: The Mac 1984.

to the said masterpiece.
